Mao Daichi to lead again in ‘My Fair Lady’
Actress Mao Daichi, 52, is set to play the lead role in the Japanese adaptation of “My Fair Lady” for her 550th time when the musical opens again in early April.
“My Fair Lady” is credited as being the first Broadway musical to be performed in Japan, starting in 1963. Daichi, a former Takarazuka star, has played the role of Eliza since 1990. At a press event, she said there is still room for her to develop her character, but that fitting into the dress is a pressing concern each year.
“My Fair Lady” will run at the Imperial Garden Theater in Tokyo from April 5 to May 1.
