Google Extensions: I approve of this

Posted in internet news by Fated Blue on January 30, 2010

So I’m a Chrome user. I’ve tested Chrome on pretty much every site I visit. It had it’s occasional glitches, bugs, crashes, but they weren’t enough to keep me from using the fastest browser out there.

Now with Opera and Firefox doing all that upgrading thing that they often do after every 5 months or so, Chrome did something else: it added extensions.

Now these extensions are similar to Firefox’s greasemonkey at first usage but it’s a whole new level entirely. The following pictures will give you an idea on what to look out for the extensions Google Chrome has in store for us.

Here are a few examples of what I’m currently using. Click the images for a larger size.

The Power of Kindness

College Admissions Essay – The Power of Kindness

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd.” I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, “Those guys are jerks. They really should get a life.” He looked at me and said, “Hey thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

iPad: There’s something wrong with it

Posted in internet news, technology by Fated Blue on January 28, 2010

When I woke up today, it took me about half an hour to get up to speed with the iPad. After I’ve read a couple of articles, I already knew everything there was to know about it (and more): its advantages, its flaws, and its potential.

But hidden between the lines of all that iPad coverage I’ve learned a thing or two about Apple and its plans, mostly from the things iPad is missing.

The thing is, Apple didn’t omit a camera or multitasking by accident. An engineer didn’t come up to Steve Jobs on Tuesday saying “I don’t know how to tell you this, Steve, but we’ve forgotten about the camera. No, please, not the head! Ouch!” They’ve omitted all these things on purpose, and this purpose tells you more about Apple’s plans than the things they did put in.

Movie Review: The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

Posted in entertainment by Fated Blue on January 28, 2010

A very colorful and inspiring film

I watched this at Gateway mall right after we passed our thesis defense. I knew this film would be stunning but I never thought that it would be visually stunning. It mixes reality with dreams with a hint of desires and the sins that surround them. A must watch on the big screen.

REVIEW: I really enjoyed watching this film. I never expected it to be very magical since I never saw the trailers. Yes, I only saw the poster and thought “Heath Ledger films are always a must watch” and it was everything I expected.

Avatar Beats Titanic as Highest Grossing Film Ever

Posted in entertainment, internet news by Fated Blue on January 28, 2010

Sci-fi spectacular “Avatar” has surpassed “Titanic” to become the highest-grossing movie worldwide ever, distributor 20th Century Fox said on Tuesday.

The worldwide total for the James Cameron movie stands at $1.859 billion after Monday’s sales, beating the $1.843 billion haul racked up by “Titanic” in 1997-1998, said Greg Brilliant, spokesman for the News Corp-owned studio.

I knew it. James Cameron must be really happy seeing that he has AGAIN made an epic film be more epic than the rest. I wonder how much money he’s willing to earn the next big film he makes? Also, this is a big thing because piracy is more prevalent today than it was when Titanic was being shown. James Cameron did the impossible!

Johnny Depp is NOT DEAD. Fake CNN website spreads rumor

Posted in entertainment, internet news by Fated Blue on January 24, 2010

THIS SITE claims that actor Johnny Depp died in a car accident. This is all FALSE.

Why? Because the website claims to be CNN when the actual CNN website doesn’t even have any breaking news nor any related news about Depp’s accident nor his alleged “death”.

This lie has spread throughout the internet like fire with popular websites and social networking sites serving as a medium like twitter.
