The 9th Soul

Book Review: Inferno By Dan Brown

Posted in entertainment, life by Fated Blue on June 29, 2014

I’ve waited a full year for this book to come out on paperback. I’m not being a cheapskate here it’s just that every book I have by Dan Brown is on paperback so I figured I should be consistent about it…well okay maybe I am a bit of a thrifty reader but who gives a fuck? 😀

Inferno is the much awaited 4th installation to Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon novels. I mean, it’s been 3 or 4 years since he released a “Langdon” book and people kept wanting more out the brilliant Harvard Symbologist and the secrets he knows about the world. True to the series, the book explores a lot of ancient history particularly that of Dante Alighieri whom this whole book was dedicated to. Langdon went back to Europe for this one and it was an expected move from Brown seeing that Europe has a lot secrets that the public may take interest in.

I might actually try this over the weekend.

Unfiltered Musings about Life & Fitness. Motivation for The Relentless Pursuit * Life's a Movie * #CMWmotivation

Don’t have a lot of time?  Want to get a total body workout in only 15 minutes?

This workout will crush body fat and rev up your metabolism.  (descriptions below)

15 min kbell workout

All you need is a kettlebell, jump-rope and your own bodyweight.

3 pronged approach:
1.  Heart rate
2.  Lean muscle/Resistance
3.  Core/Abs

Metabolic Resistance workout fo’ shizzz.

Kettlebell Swing

This is in my Top 3 of all-time exercises.  Works it all:  Core, heart rate, and muscles of the lower & upper body.  Especially works the glutes (get a nice butt, wink wink, and stronger with everything).

Feet shoulder width apart, let the kettlebell swing between your legs (not too low or below the knee), let the kettlebell go behind your body, then thrust your hips forward squeezing your glutes and abs.

Gotta love Mookology.

The Fault in Our Stars Novel by John Green

via via

Green’s most popular novel, The Fault in Our Stars, is famous for a reason.  Personally, I’ve found it difficult to identify books about cancer that aren’t just about cancer.  While the subject of this particular illness (or any for that matter) is hard on many, and most fiction written about the topic triggers an endless supply of tears, I really feel that just because a novel is heartbreaking doesn’t mean it is good.  At the risk of sounding insensitive, I am in no way trivializing something that hits so close to home.  However, when it comes to fictionalizing these very sad stories it becomes hard to disassociate heartbreak from what is actually well written and enlightening.

That aside, The Fault in Our Stars breaks boundaries in terms of being profound and John Green, as in all of his…

Double Kettlebell Front Squat Achievement: 140 lb!

Posted in health, life by Fated Blue on June 12, 2014

Credits to the owner

After 6 months with mostly using a pair of 24 kg bells, I am now able to do a pair of 32 kg cleans and squats! I tried this last Sunday just for the heck of it and I’ve never felt so happy with my training progress. I used to just be able to do single arm movements with my 32 kg bells and my most effort using the two would be more on deadlifts and swings.

The workout I did with them were as follows:

Time allotted: 20 minutes

3 x 8 double kettlebell front squats

10 x 2 double kettlebell swings

8 to 1 ladder push up

1 minute plank

Book Review: Behemoth By Scott Westerfeld

Posted in entertainment by Fated Blue on June 3, 2014

The story of the lost heir and the daring midshipman continues in Behemoth, Scott Westerfeld’s second book in his epic Leviathan trilogy.

When I first got my hands on Leviathan, I immediately searched the web for the 2nd and 3rd book. I almost HAD to opt for a very pricey Amazon delivery but luckily a local bookstore gave me hope. This was the same bookstore that helped me find The Time Traveler’s Wife. Their prices were higher than the leading bookstore in the country but they appear to have a better selection and a better customer service. So props to them.

I’ll write this quick since it’s a bit late here.

Fat Burning “Fibonacci” Kettlebell Complex

Posted in health, youtube shows by Fated Blue on June 1, 2014

I wanted to spice things up on my weekends so I decided to invent my own little complex based on the ever popular(?) Fibonacci Sequence earlier today.

I take this inspiration from Pat Flynn’s Sequential Dismay. There are two versions of this as of this writing and below are the official videos. Note how Pat uses snatches and his friend uses the one from the blog.

Bonus: Pat Flynn’s Sequential dismay (both versions) using two kettlebells performed by this guy.
