Filipino Cosplaying Reflection 2014

It’s been a while since I went to a cosplay event. I think it’s been six years as an actual goer and three or four years as someone “just dropping by”. And today I just happened to stumble upon one.

I only knew about the cosplay event at SM Megamall earlier this morning as I was browsing Facebook. It was actually from a rant at how there were too many people with too little space to go around (and Megamall is as spacious as it could get when it comes to events) and there was this picture that was like a photograph of a dystopian future wherein overpopulation has become the world’s greatest enemy.

I didn’t go there on purpose; mother had a few thousand pesos worth of SM gift-checks and we had to use them before the expiration date. The event used, I think, all three of the trade halls with one mainly for the cosplayer’s only lounge (i.e. a big empty room). The three trade halls were pretty big (but not as big as SMX’s) but they still seemed unable to contain the whole event as usual. They, the cosplayers, even moved to towards the skating rink and for good reason too. The area is less dense, cooler, and has fresher air than anywhere within 10 meters of the trade halls.

It wasn’t until I was wondering around ’til I saw the reason for the whole density of the attendees: The event was OzineFest, considered one of the major cosplay events in the country, rivaled only by ToyCon in sheer number of both participants and audience.

Needless to say, I was there to just take a look at what happened after our generation left the cosplay scene. As I wrote about it in my notrious cosplay-related blog, I practically all but lost hope for Filipino cosplaying. After witnessing today’s events, which I’m sure wasn’t as worse as it was yesterday (because cosplay-people, whether fan or cosplayer, usually go to these events on Saturdays), I still stand by what I wrote.

Book Review: A Thousand Pieces Of You By Claudia Gray (Firebird #1)

I got this book partly due to its cover. It’s one of the most beautifully designed cover I’ve seen in a while and it intrigued me. I also saw the book’s synopsis and I guess, with a couple of reviews from the internet, it made me want to buy it. It took me a while to finish this because of the hazards of having a job and not getting a good time to read. Although I’m partly to blame because I also play videogames to get my mind off things, specially after a hard day at the office. But still, I really could’ve finished this like two weeks ago.

Now why am I so insistent on the possibility of finishing this book earlier? Well, the book’s pretty interesting overall. It’s downright ambitious for an author to write about a love story while wrapping it all up in dimensional/parallel universe leaping. You may think other books have done the same thing and perhaps they have but as far as my book collection is concerned, this is one of those innovative stories I’m glad I read while it was “just out”. Taking it slow but sure

Posted in health, life by Fated Blue on December 18, 2014

With regards to my previous bump blog, I decided to veer away from my program for a while. By veer I mean avoid so much speed workouts and for a while would mean the whole week or perhaps the whole month of December.

I’ve had recent bouts of migraine and I figured high speed workouts such as my 5-minute swings, both double and single, might trigger the nauseous feeling which might end up becoming a migraine (one way or the other matters not). I’ll still look forward to performing 5-minute swings again but I should wait until I’m fully healed. My body, and particularly my head, may not be able to cater to the focus-demanding workout as I once used to.

Bumps into my program this December

My program

First month

Second month

The whole month began with me ripping a callus on my left hand. This hampered my program and I had to focus on bodyweight workouts for one week. Not to mention how I condensed it from 20 minutes to just 10 because of lack of sleep (Christmas party performance practice) and fatigue from not getting enough sleep. The second week started out fine but last Wednesday was a cursed day that I had to stop training until I’m fully rested (and I’m sure I’m fully rested now; will train tomorrow).

I first suffered from chills last Wednesday at around 1:30 AM. The thing was, it wasn’t even that cold or rather not cold enough for me to have chills. I also felt feverish which made my body feel hot to the touch. Chills and hot temperature, I was already concluding that I wouldn’t be able to workout that morning but I never thought it would get worse.

A few hours later, I had a bout with migraine and nausea right after waking up. I figured it was perhaps due to overeating which resulted to a bad gassy stomach. I was seriously burping with an intensity and consistency that would’ve filled up a small hot-air balloon if put together. I ate too much the other day and I overestimated my body’s ability to digest and metabolize the food I ate. I couldn’t even walk straight without feeling the need to throw-up. I was then rushed to the hospital.
