Quick maths and our clock

Posted in Random by Fated Blue on February 18, 2020

Gotta get this off my chest. Been suffering for decades. Now’s the time I let it all out.

I don’t understand why the clock works the way it does. I hate how you’re supposed to write 1.5 hours and have translate to 1 hour and 30 minutes instead of just straight up using 1.3 hours instead.

“An hour and a half” will translate to 1 hour and 30 minutes, but it looks like 1 hour and 50 minutes in decimal form.

What if someone uses 1.25 hours or 1.15 hours? Then there’s the issue of someone saying “I’ll be there in 45 minutes” and you check the clock and it says something like 2:45.

Now, in my head I do quick maths. I add 45 to 2:45 and I’m supposed to get 2:90.

But! 2:45 + 45 minutes is 3:30!

I get how you can add x2 + y2 = c2 and it makes sense. E= mc2 is not a problem. Even the infamous n! where numbers look like they screaming at each other before being square rooted the hell out of them is logical in my head.

But 2:45 + 45 = 3:30?! BRUH!

What if I need to defuse a bomb and I’m too stressed out to do quick clocks? What if I’m supposed to pull the red wire out at exactly 9:55:01 and it’s 9:54:30, and the dying bomb expert – who was supposed to retire today – tells me I got 31 seconds, and I end up waiting for 9:55:61?!

We die!

Opinion: (Pro) Duterte’s 2022 campaign

Posted in politics, Random, Special posts by Fated Blue on February 10, 2020

I’ve been keeping tabs on local news pages, as well groups with political themes and topics. There are still many supporters, but the promise of another pro Duterte presidency grows weaker everyday.

Local news channel TV5 has always been in full support of the admin since the elections, yet it’s slowly changed sides after Ferdinand Marcos was buried as a hero. Now, the news page has become as anti as it could be.

Even their usual pro Duterte followers have shown signs of dissent. Their daily news about what the president says or does are no longer dominated with hearts and smiling faces, but of anger and tears.

TV5 still hates Leni, though, so you can applaud their consistency at least.

There have also been a steady rise of anti-admin pages lately, or perhaps I’m only exposed to them because my friends are mostly anti (or become one).

Thoughts about the MCU after Infinity Wars

Posted in entertainment, Random, Special posts by Fated Blue on May 3, 2018

Watched one of Pewd’s recent videos and he made a commentary on the MCU.

Pewds said it’s unbelievable that after almost 20 films, people are still getting excited over a new movie or a new character reveal. It’s unbelievable how people don’t notice that almost every movie is just a reskin of the previous ones. He is also frustrated how it affects the number of films he could watch during its screening, with almost every cinema showing just one movie for two weeks, forcing “other” fans to wait for the Blu Ray release of these other films.

And I agree.

Filipino Cosplaying Reflection 2014

Posted in entertainment, Random by Fated Blue on December 28, 2014

It’s been a while since I went to a cosplay event. I think it’s been six years as an actual goer and three or four years as someone “just dropping by”. And today I just happened to stumble upon one.

I only knew about the cosplay event at SM Megamall earlier this morning as I was browsing Facebook. It was actually from a rant at how there were too many people with too little space to go around (and Megamall is as spacious as it could get when it comes to events) and there was this picture that was like a photograph of a dystopian future wherein overpopulation has become the world’s greatest enemy.

I didn’t go there on purpose; mother had a few thousand pesos worth of SM gift-checks and we had to use them before the expiration date. The event used, I think, all three of the trade halls with one mainly for the cosplayer’s only lounge (i.e. a big empty room). The three trade halls were pretty big (but not as big as SMX’s) but they still seemed unable to contain the whole event as usual. They, the cosplayers, even moved to towards the skating rink and for good reason too. The area is less dense, cooler, and has fresher air than anywhere within 10 meters of the trade halls.

It wasn’t until I was wondering around ’til I saw the reason for the whole density of the attendees: The event was OzineFest, considered one of the major cosplay events in the country, rivaled only by ToyCon in sheer number of both participants and audience.

Needless to say, I was there to just take a look at what happened after our generation left the cosplay scene. As I wrote about it in my notrious cosplay-related blog, I practically all but lost hope for Filipino cosplaying. After witnessing today’s events, which I’m sure wasn’t as worse as it was yesterday (because cosplay-people, whether fan or cosplayer, usually go to these events on Saturdays), I still stand by what I wrote.

Battle For The Net

Posted in internet news, politics, Random, security by Fated Blue on September 10, 2014

If you woke up tomorrow, and your internet looked like this, what would you do? Imagine all your favorite websites taking forever to load, while you get annoying notifications from your ISP suggesting you switch to one of their approved “Fast Lane” sites.Think about what we would lose: all the weird, alternative, interesting, and enlightening stuff that makes the Internet so much cooler than mainstream Cable TV. What if the only news sites you could reliably connect to were the ones that had deals with companies like Comcast and Verizon? On September 10th, just a few days before the FCC’s comment deadline, public interest organizations are issuing an open, international call for websites and internet users to unite for an “Internet Slowdown” to show the world what the web would be like if Team Cable gets their way and trashes net neutrality. Net neutrality is hard to explain, so our hope is that this action will help SHOW the world what’s really at stake if we lose the open Internet. If you’ve got a website, blog or tumblr, get the code to join the #InternetSlowdown here: https://battleforthenet.com/sept10thEveryone else, here’s a quick list of things you can do to help spread the word about the slowdown: http://tumblr.fightforthefuture.org/post/96020972118/be-a-part-of-the-great-internet-slowdown Get creative! Don’t let us tell you what to do. See you on the net September 10th!

The Prince That Was Promised is Jon Snow

Posted in entertainment, Random by Fated Blue on June 12, 2013

Here’s a little theory of mine based on  a bunch of wonderful sites dedicated to the series A Song of Ice and Fire

My own theory for the prince that was promised is Jon Snow or as I would call him, Jon Targaryen.

The theory consists of the following:

1. He was born during the fall of a bleeding star
2. Born amongst salt and smoke.
3. He will be the promised prince.
