The 9th Soul

Book Review: Goliath by Scott Westerfeld (Leviathan #3)

I never found the cover with the similar theme as the last two books so I got this. It was the last book in the store, too. I got lucky and I’m happy I got lucky.

I finished the final book of the Leviathan trilogy and I have only good words to say of it. I’ve always wanted to read the entire series ever since I saw its hardbound cover in our local bookstore but I waited for the right time due to budget constraints (Read: student money is never enough) and it wasn’t until I saw the first book at a sale that I since promised myself that I would hunt for the remaining books. And finally, the story has concluded itself and I’m quite happy with the results.

I’m dubbing this as one of the best series I’ve ever read. I can’t spoil anything but what I loved about this book is how it never made the story predictable. I had a couple of moments where I was literally on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t simply stop reading until a chapter has finally relieved me of the situation. Another favorite is how the fact that, though this is for teens (mainly), it never poked fun about the tragedies and horrors of war and how death is not so simple as to be merely reduced to something as ordinary and common as a statistic. The book never let up on the fact that wars are horrible events in human history and it takes the lives of too many innocents.

Book Review: Behemoth By Scott Westerfeld

The story of the lost heir and the daring midshipman continues in Behemoth, Scott Westerfeld’s second book in his epic Leviathan trilogy.

When I first got my hands on Leviathan, I immediately searched the web for the 2nd and 3rd book. I almost HAD to opt for a very pricey Amazon delivery but luckily a local bookstore gave me hope. This was the same bookstore that helped me find The Time Traveler’s Wife. Their prices were higher than the leading bookstore in the country but they appear to have a better selection and a better customer service. So props to them.

I’ll write this quick since it’s a bit late here.

Book Review: Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

Click to enlarge. I have this version of the book and I want the succeeding ones related to the cover but I’m not sure they still exist.

I’ve been looking for a cheap version of this book for, perhaps, six years now. It was only by rough chance, and a good deal of sorting through a bunch of old piled books, that I found this lying underneath the rubble. It was in very mint condition given that it still has the plastic cover protecting the whole book itself from aging. It’s original price was at 719.00 php but I got it as 200 instead. Sweet deal, right? I’ve been looking for the rest of the series but luck has yet to smile on my search.

Let me give you a quick review since I’m a bit pressed for time. This book is meant for young adults but I’m 24 and I still enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I was willing to purchase all the series on day 3 of this book.  Perhaps Scott knows how to fish because his book got me hook, line, and sinker.
